Amy Trefry - Filmmaker

Amy was drawn into writing and producing content from the desire to create roles she would would to perform as an actor. Her first short film Jerky won the CBC Pitch Competition at the WIFT-AT Women Making Waves Conference in 2018 and went on to screen and win awards internationally at film festivals. She was awarded the Telefilm Talent to Watch grant in 2019 through which she wrote and produced the digital series I Hear You a modern day, feminist, medical drama. Her work is focused largely on showcasing the stories of women, gender queer folks, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. She is dedicated to working with BIPOC artists and collaborating on projects that are inclusive in both their content and creation. Amy was one of 12 emerging television producers in Canada selected for the RDV Canada Meet the Series program in 2020 and as a screenwriter she has participated in John Yorke’s master classes – Creating a Hit Series – through the support of Screen Nova Scotia. She is currently in development on two feature films as well as full length television series. She is active in the film community as a member of Women in Film and Television and the Atlantic Film Cooperative as well as a Screen Nova Scotia Member.
